For families supporting a child or children with self-injury issues, the immediate dangers of self-harm are very real. That’s why Great Circle provides two programs dealing with these issues: Self-Injury Counseling Services and Self-Injury Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Self-injury is an escalating problem for teens. Research indicates approximately 18% of high school and college students have engaged in non-suicidal self-injury.
Our 12-week program is available to youth living in St. Louis County or under St. Louis County Court jurisdiction. The program is centered on individual and family therapy for adolescents struggling with self-injury. The program runs after school hours and on weekends, based on family needs. Youth participate in individual and family therapy sessions, as well as group therapy sessions for the adolescents, plus a multi-family educational group weekly.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Our six-week day IOP is for youth who are uninsured or under-insured and currently engaged in non-suicidal self-injury. IOP runs for 6-9 hours each week from 4-7 pm on weekdays. Youth participate in group therapy sessions, skills-building activities and exercises, family therapy sessions, and family education groups. Self-injury IOP staff collaborate with existing community treatment providers and school personnel to best meet the youth’s needs.
