Great Circle’s Tom Butterfield Campus Earns Bronze Award As Missouri Breastfeeding-Friendly Worksite

(Marshall – January 31, 2019) – Great Circle’s Tom Butterfield Campus in Marshall, Mo., is proud to be among the growing number of Missouri businesses and organizations to be honored as a Missouri Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and the Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition. Great Circle received the bronze level honor today, Jan. 31, through the Saline County Health Department.

The bronze award recognizes Great Circle’s efforts to follow local and state breastfeeding laws and both provide a designated space for breastfeeding and a safe place to store the milk. The state program aims to bring increased awareness about the importance of workplace lactation support. Currently, more than 70 percent of Missouri mothers choose breastfeeding.

Statistics show that employers that provide lactation support services have higher employee retention, lower absenteeism, higher morale, greater productivity, and reduced health care costs. Yet, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that returning to work is a major reason why many women stop breastfeeding.

Great Circle is a statewide behavioral health nonprofit with 20 locations across Missouri, including centralized services on its Columbia, Marshall, Springfield, St. James and St. Louis campuses. With a staff of about 1,400 statewide, Great Circle serves more than 38,000 children and individuals annually. For information about Great Circle and its programs, visit www.greatcircle.org.
