Great Circle receives $10,000 from Bayer Fund

Grant supports expressive arts therapy for St. Louis area children

Great Circle receives $10,000 from Bayer Fund

(St. Louis, November 19, 2019) – Bayer Fund has recently provided a $10,000 grant to Great Circle in support of its expressive arts therapy program, offered through the nonprofit’s school, Great Circle Academy.  The private, K-12 school is located on Great Circle’s Webster Groves campus, 330 N. Gore, and is an important component of Great Circle’s comprehensive spectrum of behavioral health services. Great Circle Academy (GCA) provides high-quality education in an accepting, therapeutic environment for students who struggle with emotional and behavioral challenges, communication disorders or cognitive delays, substance use disorders, or who are on the autism spectrum.

“Bayer Fund’s support helps us enhance our unique educational approach which blends academics and a wide variety of therapies that focuses on academic, social and emotional growth,” says Paula Fleming, Great Circle’s interim co-president and chief executive officer. “This gives our students the opportunity to express themselves creatively in an environment that accepts them for who they are and helps them build both inner strength and school success.”

GCA is accredited by the prestigious Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) and AdvancED. GCA’s specialized intervention curriculum aligns to both the Missouri and Illinois learning standards. Small class sizes, a highly trained staff and an emphasis on trauma-informed care help GCA students make positive behavior changes, improve self-esteem, gain confidence, and learn how to resolve conflicts and develop healthy relationships with adults and peers.

Great Circle is a statewide nonprofit that reaches more than 38,000 children and families each year, helping to reshape vulnerable lives through a community of partners, teachers and leaders. It provides specialized behavioral health services, 24-hour care, respite programs, and education and day treatment programs, including for children on the autism spectrum. It also delivers a broad spectrum of community-based services, including parental support programs, foster/adoptive care, assessments, crisis management and family stabilization.
