Our Approach

At Great Circle, we welcome children who feel out of place in other schools. We provide a place where they can feel right at home, and celebrate diversity in all its forms, from ethnic to behavioral. And we do it with a warm smile and open arms.

Academically, our highly trained and experienced teachers, therapists and staff work collaboratively to ensure support and success for youth ages 5-21 with significant emotional and behavioral challenges, communication disorders, cognitive delays or who have an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. Compassionately, we’re a school for any student who struggles greatly in other educational settings because of factors beyond their control.

Curriculum & Class Size: Our curriculum uses evidence-based programs and behavior strategies, and we take care to adapt our teaching to fit each student’s personality and needs. Class sizes are small, about 10 students, and each classroom has a highly qualified teacher, teacher’s assistant and licensed clinical therapist working as a team.

Graduation & Beyond: Our staff supports each child’s personal journey to future success by giving them a nurturing and structured environment where they can unlock their full potential. We place a strong emphasis on learning and normalization to prepare students who can transition back to a traditional school setting. Secondary school students can earn high school diplomas, prepared for post-secondary school, vocational/technical training or entry into the workforce.

Highly Accredited: Many forms of success aren’t measurable as a score. How do you quantify a child’s ability to laugh and smile? Still, we take great pride in employing many Board Certified Behavior Analysts – considered the gold standard in behavioral health – especially in caring for children with autism. Plus, our schools are nationally accredited by AdvancED and Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), and approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Illinois Board of Education.

Five Locations: Each year, almost 500 children are educated on our campuses. Through partnerships with 63 school districts across Missouri, Great Circle’s education staff rings the school bell daily on our Columbia, Marshall, St. James and St. Louis campuses. The St. James and St. Louis campuses also provide education for children with autism. By separate agreement with the Springfield Public Schools, that district’s teachers operate a school on our Springfield campus.

Getting Enrolled: Our admissions specialists are highly trained professionals whose top priority is to provide prompt, confidential service followed by timely evaluation and assessment, creating a customized plan forward for your child or teen. Many students come to us via a referral from their home school district; others are directly enrolled by their parents. "What I like about the education program is that the teachers help me with my work when I need help. They are very respectful to me. I like that there is a credit recovery for me to do so I can get caught up in school. I like this because I am three years behind in school and the head administrator is helping me get caught up in school."
