Emergency Shelter: Ozarks Family Resource Center

Overview

The Ozarks Family Resource Center is an emergency shelter that houses children ages newborn through 18 for up to 30 days, while awaiting reunification with their families or a longer-term alternative placement in foster care.

Program Details

Due to a lack of available foster homes able to accept children who have suffered abuse or neglect, emergency shelter services are available to provide short-term placement. This allows for sibling groups to remain together while an alternative placement is located.

Short-term shelter services for children removed due to crises also allow for assessments to determine their best possible long-term placement, while providing respite care for foster parents. The Ozarks Family Resource Center also includes a nursery, day care, nursing department, kitchen, internal courtyard and playground.

“I left a bad home situation because it wasn’t safe for me and my baby, but then I was a homeless, unemployed, teen mom. I didn’t have anywhere to go and I was terrified my baby would be taken from me. The Empowering Youth program took us both in and I was able to keep my baby with me while the kind staff helped me figure out our next step. They helped me find a longer term transitional living program so I can get back on my feet and provide a better life for my baby.”
